American Whitewater is pleased to recognize Ian Foley as our Volunteer of the Month!

Ian invested an immeasurable amount of personal time and resources in coordinating releases on the North Fork of the South Platte River in Colorado. Ian worked closely with staff at the Denver Water Board to provide an additional 300cfs into the Bailey and Foxton runs.

These kayaking flows were provided in accordance with the South Platte Protection Plan, which was developed as an alternative to Wild and Scenic river designation. Included among the organizations that created the plan are Trout Unlimited, the Sierra Club, American Whitewater, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Denver Water and the U.S. Forest Service. One of the goals of the plan is to enhance whitewater recreation flows on the North Fork when possible.

Denver Water's management of its water system has resulted in many high-quality kayaking days on the North Fork over the past several years, but this is the first coordinated weekend event.

Ian also took the lead in planning for the first annual Bailey Festival, including parking, shuttles, designing and printing T-shirts, and the post paddle Barbeque.

On behalf of all Colorado boaters, Thanks Ian!
