Green River Flow Study (WA)

Over the past several months, Friends of the Green and American Whitewater have been working with Tacoma Public Utilities and OASIS Environmental to identify the range and characteristics of whitewater boating flows on four reaches of the Green River.

Many paddlers have been actively participating in this effort by reporting their runs through an internet-based flow survey. Thank you. The weekend of April 26th, OASIS staff will be on the Green to conduct additional on-site surveys and lead a couple focus group discussions.

We encourage those who have participated in the internet flow study or who have an interest in recreational flows to come join the discussion.

There will be two opportunities to join a focus group:

Saturday, April 26, 2008, 4 pm
Flaming Geyser State Park Lodge, primary focus group discussion (map)

Sunday,  April 27, 2008, 3 pm
Pavilion at Flaming Geyser State Park adjacent to the take-out (map)

OASIS staff will be on site on Saturday and Sunday to survey paddlers when they get off the water. We encourage paddlers to come out to enjoy the river and participate in the surveys that will be conducted.

If you are planning to attend one of the focus groups please send an email to Carla Miner <carla@americanwhitewater.org> with craft you normally use (e.g. kayak, raft, canoe). This will assist our planning efforts and ensure that we have good representation from different user groups.

We are looking into the possibility of a discussion on Friday evening but there is a conflict with the WKC meeting. If you can not get out to the Green over the weekend but have an interest in participating in an informal discussion on Friday evening please let us know. We'll work to make arrangements based on interest.
